Patients who suffer from aortic stenosis no longer need to travel outside of the Salina area to receive the most advanced, least invasive treatment. The Heart Center at Salina Regional Health Center now offers transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) surgery, a minimally invasive, catheter-based procedure to replace the aortic valve.
Prior to TAVR, treatment options were limited to temporarily improving valve function by prescribing medication or replacing the diseased valve in open-heart surgery. TAVR does not require open-heart surgery; instead, replaces the aortic value with a tissue valve via a catheter. With TAVR, the recovery process can be much shorter and less painful.
The decision to treat aortic stenosis with TAVR is made after consulting with a team of heart specialists working together to determine the best treatment options. The Heart Center’s TAVR team includes cardiothoracic surgeons – Dr. Elias Quintos and Dr. Richard Toon – and cardiologist Dr. David Battin.
If you are experiencing symptoms of aortic stenosis including chest pain, dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath and/or irregular heartbeat call the Valve Clinic at 785-452-6772 to request a consultation.

A revolutionary procedure for aortic valve disease is now available at Salina Regional Health Center. It’s called transcatheter aortic valve replacement, or TAVR. This minimally invasive procedure allows new heart valves to be inserted through an artery as opposed to opening a patient’s chest. Hear from Dr. Richard Toon, Cardiothoracic Surgeon, and Dr. David Battin, Cardiologist.
The PULSE is sponsored by Salina Regional Health Center and airs every Monday at 12:30pm on KSN as a part of Good Day Kansas.
