Remember Louie??? We did a gender DNA test on this Green-cheeked Conure (see previous post) And the results are in...... ITS A BOY!!!! 💙💙💙💙 Louie is in fact a male! Who guessed correctly??
Meet Louie! 🐦 We had the pleasure of examining Louie and running a very special and exciting test! You see, Louie is a 5 month old Green-cheeked Conure. Unlike some birds, this particular species does not exhibit characteristics or colors that let us know their gender. So we ran a simple blood test to find out if Louie is a he or a she! Not only is it fun and exciting to find out his/her gender but knowing a birds gender is vital for veterinarians in the way that it helps us better diagnose and treat health concerns. Louie’s owner said if he turns out to be a girl he will get a name change to Louise! Results will be coming in soon.... So cast your vote! BOY 💙 or GIRL 💖 Thank you Lora Stooner for letting us share your beautiful feathered friend!!
We all know how Smokey it has been the last few days so we would like to remind everyone to keep your pets health in mind right now. ⚠️⚠️⚠️ Currently we are still in the hazardous zone for air quality. What does this mean for your pet? •We recommend keeping your dogs and cats indoors and limiting outdoor time to potty breaks only. •No activity outside. •Always provide fresh clean water. •For outdoor pets limit their pen space and keep them close to the barn. This will help limit movement. •For outdoor pets rotate fresh clean water multiple times a day. This keeps airways moist and smoke particles out of the water. •Pet birds should avoid outdoors at all times currently. •And we always recommend having an evacuation kit and evacuation plan in place! Please follow this link for more information from the AVMA and signs and symptoms of smoke inhalation related problems... https://www.avma.org/resources/pet-owners/emergencycare/wildfire-smoke-and-animals
Dear Clients, We would like to announce that Ponti Veterinary Hospital has merged and we are now partnered with VCA (Veterinary Centers of America). Our name will now be VCA Ponti Animal Hospital. We will continue to provide the same standard of care to our clients and community. We are still the same staff and doctors that you have come to know. We would also like to inform our clients that we will no longer be offering most of our large animal services. We have had the pleasure of serving our large animal community over the last 40+ years. Large animal has always been Dr. Ponti’s passion but as many of you may have noticed Dr. Ponti has already mostly retired from doing large animal work. We will no longer be seeing horses, cattle, or camelids (llamas, alpacas, camels), nor will we be offering farm call services. We will, however, continue to see small farm animals which include goats, sheep, small pigs and small calves. There will be exceptions to this pending species, size, etc but this will be on a case by case basis. They will need to hauled into our facility to be seen inside our building. Please know that this decision has not been taken lightly and we are truly thankful for your support through the years and your continued support. Thank you for making us a part of your family whether you are recently new to us or have been with us from the beginning. We look forward to continuing to serve our community and pets.

When you are kinda nervous at your vet visit but your veterinary technician is skilled in cuddles 👍❤️ Cedar was such a sweet girl and felt so much better after getting reassurance from one of our technicians Havilah. This is what really happens behind the scenes. Your pet is treated exactly how you would treat them if you were here. We know it can be stressful for pets and owners when you can not come inside with them but we do our best!
Happy snowy Monday! 🐈 ❄️ 🐕 How about a little fun to start off the week! Drop a photo of your pet below and explain their name WITHOUT saying their name! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Happy Thanksgiving!!! 🦃🦃🦃 While this year we may be celebrating the holiday a little different with some modifications, one thing has not changed... the foods your pet can eat! While the humans are stuffing ourselves with tasty treats our pets are most likely close, eagerly waiting for a snack! Remeber some foods are ok for our pets but some food you definitely want to keep out of paws reach! It’s best to avoid all human food, especially if your pet is not used to it. But here are some safe holiday options! We will be closed today for the holiday but right back to work tomorrow and Saturday! If you have a pet emergency today please contact: Emergency Pet Care in Post Falls (208) 772-2707 Pet Emergency Clinic in Spokane (509) 326-6670 Animal Emergency Clinic in Spokane Valley (509) 535-8743 Pet Poison Helpline (855) 764-7661

Spring is almost here and that means it's time to start talking about flea and tick prevention. Ticks can carry deadly diseases and even cause paralysis. Ask us today about proper protection. We have product at the hospital or we can even set you up in our online pharmacy to have product shipped directly to your house.

We have some exciting news at VCA Ponti Animal Hospital! We are pleased to start allowing clients into the building again, starting today! This is not yet a full reopen, but we are now able to allow you to come in with your pet for their exam. We ask for your patience as we all adjust to this new protocol! While in the clinic, a mask must be worn properly at all times and only one client/person in the building per family. We still ask that you call upon your arrival as we are limiting the number of clients in the building to still keep with proper social distancing. If there is space in the lobby the receptionists will inform you that you can come inside and wait. When the technician is ready they will come and get you to bring you into an exam room for your appointment. We are allowing one person in each exam room with their pet(s), and will ask you to remain seated during the exam. Please allow our doctors and assistants to perform the exam. After the exam is complete, you will be checked-out at the front desk and then are free to leave the clinic. If diagnostics or tests are needed, we may ask that you wait in your car while we are waiting for the results. This will help to ensure that we are able to help everybody that has scheduled appointments. For medication and food pickups, we are continuing to do a modified curbside pick-up to reduce the number of people in the building. We ask that you please call ahead for these items to be filled or set aside in advance and call at the time of pick-up. For boarding appointments, we ask that you still call in and allow the receptionist to let the boarding staff know and they will direct you on current boarding check in process All surgery check-ins and check-outs, as well as all technician appointments, will continue to be curbside, at this time. We are still offering curbside service to anyone that is uncomfortable coming into the clinic, may have children with them or who is unable and/or unwilling to wear a mask properly. If you do opt for a curbside appointment, we ask that you remain in our parking lot for the duration of your pets visit. We want to thank all of you for your continued support through the past year. We appreciate every single one of you and can't wait to see you all again! Henry (with Owner Kristen) are very happy to be back inside!!
