An extremely common call I receive sounds something like this: "How much will you charge me to add my child to my deed." Sounds simple enough, right? Well, like almost everything in this world, there's no simple answer. Sometimes it's a terrible idea to "put my child on the deed." An even worse question I often get is "how do I take my child off the deed?" This is usually the result of a lawyer blindly "putting my child on the deed" without a consultation and asking questions such as why do you want to do this and learning more about the child. This article outlines some of the issues and methods involved in potentially leaving your home to your children. If you're considering such a move, please talk with a lawyer who will take the time to explain the many reasons why it may not be a good idea to "put my child on my deed" and who can help you accomplish your goals and minimize any risk. Please "like" this post if you found it helpful.

As if small business didn't have enough administrative BS to deal with already, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act now requires you to provide notification of the availability of Unemployment Compensation to individual employees at the time of separation. This is effective immediately. A sign in the business is no longer good enough. You must give each individual an individual notice. If you would like to know more, feel free to contact our office. I have a form of the notice available for your review.

Was able to successfully defend a client against a protection from abuse petition recently. I'm posting this because people often don't take these matters seriously. However, a finding of abuse can have far reaching consequences that are often not considered by the person being accused. It could affect employment, it could affect your ability to obtain a concealed carry permit or even your ability to legally purchase or possess a firearm. So, if you have been accused, don't take it lightly. Call a lawyer and defend yourself.
Did you know that you qualify for the Economic Stimulus payment even if you didn't file a tax return in 2018 or 2019? If you were not required to file a return due to your income, you can still qualify for the payment. If you were supposed to file a return this does not apply to you. So if you have friends or relatives who are on Social Security for example who are not required to file a return, they can still register to receive this payment. Please share this with those folks, it may help them during these troubled times. Thank you for visiting.

As we have many military personnel in the area, I thought this article might be informative. If you're divorcing, this will help you understand just how that affects any benefits your children might be allowed to continue to access. Of course you should consult a lawyer for more specific advice, but this will at least get you pointed in the right direction. Please share with any military person the you know who might be thinking of, or otherwise involved in a divorce, it might help them. Thank you.

I'm happy to announce a very successful outcome for a recent client. I tried a very contentious custody case for them and was able to get the judge to rule in our favor after the testimony of just one witness. My client was very happy with the result and the best interests of the child involved were protected.
If you have a custody issue, or know someone who does, call us for an appointment to discuss your case.
