Reminder: With all the rain we’ve been having it’s a good time to check and make sure you’re Sump pump is working properly
There has been a lot of confusion going on regarding whether or not the Business Interruption coverage under a Commercial Business Insurance policy covers the suspension of business due to the coronavirus. Most Commercial Business Interruption coverages I am familiar with provide coverage only if " The suspension is caused by Direct Physical Loss of or damage to property , at the described premises" .
It looks as though our Federal Government is going to provide some relief for this..

Tornado and Severe Weather Checklist:
With the recent devastation in Nashville I thought it wise to make a short list of items that need to be checked on your home insurance policy.
1. Have an Inventory of your personal property - now that
almost everyone has a smart phone, take some time and
video tape your home including; each room, closets,
drawers, etc. If your home is destroyed, the first thing a
claims adjuster will want is a list of all your personal
property.. A video will allow you to validate what you have.
2. Verify your home is insured properly.. Do you have
Replacement cost or Actual Cash Value coverage on
the home and personal property?
3. Check to see what kind of coverage you have available
for debris removal of trees, limbs, shrubs etc....
These are just a few of the more important areas of coverage each homeowner should check out..
Always keep us in mind when shopping for your insurance needs..

ALERT! ALERT! If you have a sump pump now is the time to check to see if it is functioning properly!! I can't tell you how many claims we have paid through the years for pumps not working when you really need them!
I hope everyone's New Year has started off on a positive note..I do want to alert everyone to be ready in the event of a pipe bursting due to the freezing temperatures. Be prepared !! Over the past week a lot of pipes have frozen. This weekend we should have a slight thaw. This unfortunately is when you will find out if you have a broken water line. The frozen water in the pipes expand and crack the piping or joint. Once they thaw, the water flows.. Know where your water shut-off valve is, have a shop Vac . fans, etc. ready.. Try to prevent further damage and call your insurance agent or company.. One other note. If and when you leave your home for a period of time for a vacation or long weekend , it is always a good idea to have someone check on your property and do not turn the heat off. Most insurane policies will not pay these kinds of claims if the heat was shut off on purpose. Stay warm and let's hope Spring comes early !!
