Vanishing Hoboken: Walking a stair restoration project in uptown Garden Street for an old and dear friend, basically a gut-reno job where they’re trying to save the stairs. You know the drill: “non-compliant existing condition”. More thorough photo essay to follow. However thought I would stop by Facebook and give a preview to you. The “military issue” horseshoe over the stairs into the basement is still intact. Unfortunately no one told them that they were supposed to hang the horseshoe facing the other way up, so “the luck doesn’t run out”. Cliff-hanger: In the next post I will feature the “speaking tube” I found upstairs, and had to explain to everyone what it was.
YOUR STAIR REPAIR DOLLARS AT WORK.
Welcome to our new pad! Please curb your enthusiasm for this post, but the latest at our 4200 Grand Avenue, North Bergen studio is bringing out the heavy equipment and pouring some money into increasing our curb appeal.
With a special thanks for the planning stage support by nastasi architects , especially the unparalleled "architect's architect" John Nastasi , as well as drawing on the talents of Timothy Germann and David Wurster, whose curbside advice to us cemented the deal and made this a reality.
Our facility is now ready for another 33 years of stair repair!

Who loves your stairs? We do! We are working today in a Craftsman home in Maplewood where the treads and risers were just a little too far gone to be salvaged, so we are replacing the treads with new wide plank 5/4” red oak, and as you can see here we’re just getting things underway. Of course we are retaining the original configuration and making exact replicas of the existing treads. Here we are installing the new curved started tread while preserving “the jewel in the crown”— the original starter newel post. Note the handmade radius “starter riser” as well.

Built-in cabinetry is something we create as well! Here's a little before and after timeline "design in progress" of a living room built-in cabinetry we designed, built and installed in midtown Hoboken recently. The design was a collaboration between myself and the homeowner.

Dateline: Jersey City, NJ, Thanksgiving Day 2020. Here is a project we have been working on for a while now that we just wrapped up yesterday and are now handing off to the painters to complete the applied finishes.
Recent project, tread and riser replacement, 5/4" Brazilian cherry AKA jatoba tread. The good stuff. Go ahead, live a little.

Meanwhile, back at the stair: We rebuilt the flight which was very shaky throughout and ended up only having to replace one tread which was broken and couldn’t be salvaged. Just needs a little staining of the one tread to finish up. Another happy ending! Give us a call the next time YOUR stairs need rescue!
