Not only does switching our clocks ahead one hour for Daylight Savings Time make us tired, but it can also be deadly. A study by Austin C. Smith published in the American Economic Journal finds that moving our clocks ahead one hour each spring for Daylight Savings Time may contribute to an increase in deadly accidents on our roadways. In fact, the transition may have resulted in over 30 deaths between 2002 and 2011.

Here in Tennessee, some of our state lawmakers have set out to change this spring ritual and possibly help save lives. They’ve proposed legislation to allow Tennessee to join with other states who have permanently adopted Daylight Savings Time.
