Our friends over the mountains said this so well that I felt I needed to share. The Veterinary Community is working hard to fix these suicide statistics, letting our clients know about it is a good starting place. Our hearts, and prayers are with all the clinics and their families who’ve lost a family member to suicide.

Dear friends and family,
Morgan here, practice manager at PCVH. I'd love a moment of your time to shine light on a topic equally as heavy as it is important to talk about. As you may know, September is Suicide Prevention Month. What you may not know is that the veterinary field has one of the highest rates of suicide among all professions. In fact, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) found that the suicide rate amongst veterinary professionals is 2 to 3.5 times higher than the national average.
How could that be, you ask? We get to play with puppies and kittens all day! Whilst it is true that our days in the veterinary field are filled with amazing patients that give us so much joy, our days are also filled with an immense amount of stress, hard conversations, tears, mentally and emotionally taxing cases, time constraints, and oftentimes verbal and emotional abuse. After a hard day without a moment to decompress, we then take that work and all of its hardships home with us. You see, we put everything we have into our patient care because we genuinely love what we do. We have been named the "Industry of Compassion" and everyone in this field would agree that our compassion is what led us here. However, that compassion has been used by others to create and fuel unhealthy and unreasonable expectations which take a damaging toll on our mental health.
It may not be as easy on the other side of that exam room door as we may make it seem. Please keep in mind that when a doctor walks in late to an appointment, it may be because they just helped a pet parent say goodbye to their best friend whom we've grown to love as our own. Please consider the nurse who couldn't fill that prescription on time because they were performing CPR on a pet that we couldn't save. Please be patient with the receptionists doing their best to get you on your way while juggling a lobby full of pet parents, 6 phone lines, text messages, and emails. Please be understanding when you're faced with a hospital policy that is not to your liking; it was created and followed to keep everyone safe. Please be kind to the team who worked through their lunch break because they were doing everything in their power to save a life.
Above all else, please remember that we are human and we too need compassion and kindness.
Suicide can be prevented.
Please be kind to one another.
Our lives literally depend on it.

The results are in.... Palomino’s weight is 19.2lbs 😳⬆️😳 Apparently I need get her back to swimming!!! Ideally for her body frame she needs to be about 14lbs (I’d be happy if I saw 16 again)
While we might think that 5lbs isn’t that much, and that can be true for us people, what’s the big deal?!? A little dog like her, and with a long back, it’s more like she’s packing an extra 50lbs!!!
