Johnny Edwards has a history of medical conditions that bring him to Encompass Health Fort Smith for therapy. Johnny is well known for being a hard worker and making huge gains each time he returns.
“Every time I get sick the doctors say, ‘You need more therapy. Do you know where you want to go?’ I know my answer. I tell them Encompass Health. The therapists around here always know what to do, when to do it and how to make it fun to get me where I need to be. My discharge was going to be the Friday after Thanksgiving but because of Encompass and its staff, I get to go home before Thanksgiving.”
Candy Appleton was admitted to the ER with shortness of breath, fever and muscle aches, and was diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia.
“I didn’t believe COVID-19 was real. How wrong I was—COVID-19 is real. I know. I spent 63 days in an ICU battling this dreaded virus, on a ventilator for seven weeks. When I first got here, I could not walk. The first time I walked, I walked 17 feet and I was so proud. Now, I walk with the walker all over.
I will be discharged from Encompass Health three months to the day that I entered the ICU. I have a long road to fully recover, but there are 260,000+ people that were not so lucky. My family and I want to thank all of my nurses, doctors and caregivers. They have all been wonderful. I will be smiling as I finally am able to breathe fresh air tomorrow when I walk out the door.” —Candy

"I am extremely grateful for the team at Encompass Health. I really enjoyed the consistency in the therapy department and being able to work with the same therapist throughout my stay. It made the rehab journey more personable getting to know them and them getting to know me. I really appreciated the goals they set for me to accomplish each session and being able to celebrate all of the milestones together. When one of them had the day off, the other members on the team did a great job picking up where we left off the day before." —Dwayne Roberts, former patient
