Scioto Ema is sharing a COVID-19 Update. Yesterday at 4:25 PM · The Scioto County and Portsmouth City Health Departments reported there have been 32 new positive COVID19 cases for Scioto County since last Friday. The new cases bring the total to 607 for the county since the outbreak of the virus on April 4, 2020. The health departments said the increase in numbers are due to community spread and have not been traced back to any one place or event. The health departments also reported that since last Friday 4 more people who previously tested positive for the virus, have recovered, bringing the total of recoveries to 479 people over the course of the pandemic. There were two additional hospitalizations reported since last Friday bringing the total to 53 people that have been hospitalized, during the outbreak, in connection with the virus or found to have the virus during their admission for other medical reasons. This number does not represent the number of people currently in the hospital in connection with COVID19. Scioto County remains on a Level 3 or Red on the Ohio Department of Health’s Public Health Advisory System. The health departments urge everyone to please wear a mask in public, continue to practice good hygiene, and continue to social distance. Please do your part to slow the spread. Please see the attached graphic for more details.

King's Daughters Medical Center is sharing a COVID-19 Update. October 22 at 7:50 PM · From Kristie Whitlatch President & CEO King's Daughters A brief update today. As COVID continues to spread throughout our communities, we are dealing with the results. Our numbers are up across the board. More cases diagnosed. More hospitalizations. More deaths. These past few weeks have been difficult for our COVID teams, who pour themselves into their work. It is heartbreaking for them, when despite their best efforts, a patient is lost. And sadly, this is happening far more often. From Oct. 1 to 22, we lost 16 people to COVID. We know the mortality rate is higher than this, though, as patients may choose comfort care at another facility. The statistics are troubling. New cases, Oct. 15-22: 182 • Month to date: 582 Deaths, Oct. 1-22: 16 • Deaths, Sept. 1-30: 11 Patients currently hospitalized with COVID: 28 • COVID ICU: 6 Positive rate, Oct. 15-22: 3.8% • Month to date: 3.3% I’m not trying to be doom and gloom, but it’s important you have information so you can make informed decisions. While I believe in the power of prayer and positive thinking, COVID is not going to go away anytime soon. For now this is our new normal and we must adjust our lives accordingly to protect ourselves, our families and friends. This includes: • Wearing masks when in public or in close contact with people who don’t live with you. • Maintaining a social distance of at least 6 feet. • Avoiding gatherings and stay home as much as possible. • Washing hands/sanitizing frequently throughout the day. Three important things you can do: • Get a flu shot. While not 100% perfect, the flu vaccine provides protection. • Don’t neglect your health. Yes, COVID has captured everyone’s attention. But heart attacks, strokes, cancer and other diseases must not be ignored. Our facilities are very safe and ready to care for you. • Be kind. Everyone is carrying a heavy burden and a little bit of kindness makes a difference. Please continue to pray for and offer encouragement to our team, most especially our COVID teams. We share your cards. Team members see your comments on Facebook and Instagram. Your kindness matters more than you can know.

Portsmouth City Health Department February 4 at 7:17 PM · Scioto County Emergency Management 729 Sixth Street Portsmouth, OH 45662 740-355-8300 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 5, 2021 Scioto County Ready and Waiting for Larger Vaccine Shipments (Portsmouth, Ohio) – “Each week, it’s like Christmas as we wait and hope for bigger shipments of vaccine doses. But so far each week we have been sadly disappointed,” remarked Portsmouth City Health Commissioner Chris Smith. He and Dr. Jerod Walker, Scioto County Health Department Commissioner have remained optimistic that as more and more COVID-19 vaccine is being produced that more will make its way to Scioto County. As yet, the small shipments haven’t gotten bigger. “We’ve been averaging about 100 doses per week for each of the health departments as well as each of the Kroger Pharmacies,” said Walker. “SOMC has gotten larger shipments but those have also gotten smaller in recent weeks, so the demand for vaccinations here is outpacing the supply that we have available.” The federal government recently announced a plan to ship additional vaccine directly to pharmacies, but it isn’t clear yet whether any pharmacies in Scioto County will be on that list. When and if the county begins receiving larger shipments, Scioto EMA Director Larry Mullins says the county is prepared to hold mass vaccination events to quickly reach as many people as possible. “This county has a great level of cooperation and experience when it comes to responding to large public health needs,” Mullins said. “The health departments, the hospitals, Shawnee State University, the schools, and several other organizations meet weekly to assure that everybody is on the same page and ready to roll out a mass vaccination event on short notice. The moment we know we have a larger supply of vaccine coming, we will be ready to start scheduling the events.” Meanwhile, the current Scioto County Vaccination Sites-Portsmouth City and Scioto County Health Departments, SOMC, and the Kroger Pharmacies in Portsmouth and Wheelersburg are still registering eligible residents for vaccinations. Beginning February 8, those who are 65 years of age and older are eligible and may register, but be patient. The list is long, and the supply is short, but eventually, everyone who wants a vaccine will get one.
