This week's highlight for National Women's history month is Dr. Lucy Beaman Hobbs Taylor! ๐
Dr. Hobbs Taylor was the first woman to graduate from dental school in the United States. Since 1983, the American Academy of Women Dentists has awarded the Lucy Hobbs Taylor award to "recognize a woman dentist who, through outstanding achievements, exhibits qualities that positively reflect the image of women dentists and a commitment to the profession." She's a woman that we can all look up to and admire! ๐

We are excited to continue celebrating some of the amazing women who've made an impact in dentistry during this National Women's History Month! โค๏ธ
Dr. Juliann Foster became a dentist during a time when only 2% of dental school graduates were women and only about 2% were African American! She was also the first female president of the Chicago Dental Society and was the director of the dental hygiene department at Northwestern University's dental school.
Dr. Foster was inducted into the Chicago Women's Hall of Fame and received the American Dental Association's Outstanding Service Award! She passed away in 2019, leaving behind a legacy for all women ๐ช
In honor of National Women's History Month, we are proud to highlight some of the amazing women who have made an impact in the dental field! ๐ ๐ข
This week's spotlight is Dr. Ida Gray Nelson Rollins, the first African American dentist in the United States. In addition to her work as a dentist, she was the vice president of the Professional Women's Club of Chicago, vice president of the Eighth Regiment Ladies Auxiliary, and was a member of the Phyllis Wheatley Club, a group organized to maintain the only black women's shelter in Chicago. What an extraordinary woman! โค๏ธ
