We regret to tell you that we are in quarantine!😟 A team member tested positive for the virus, so the hospital will be closed immediately until Wednesday, November 18th. You will get a cancellation call if you had an appointment scheduled, and as soon as we can revise our schedule, we PROMISE we will get all of you rescheduled! If you desperately need a medication and will run out, email us and we will try to accommodate you. If you have an urgent medical issue, please call CPVETS at 237-4670. Thank you for understanding; we are so very sorry about the interruption in your pet's medical care!
A microchip is NOT a GPS tracker. Sometimes, clients assume that if their pet is lost, we can track it. This is not what a microchip does. There are, however, new GPS devices on the market that can be attached to collars or are embedded in collars. As with anything, we suspect you get what you pay for, so be wary of the really low-priced "deals." And if anyone has actually used any brand of GPS pet trackers, we'd love to hear about your experience!

Today we had a frightening reminder of why we all MUST give our pets warmth and shelter in the frigid weather. We received a call from Good Samaritans who had found this kitten lying out in the cold, nearly lifeless. They rushed her to us, and our team rushed into action. She was hypothermic and in very poor condition, with potential organ failure or brain damage. After several hours of gentle warming her temp began to come up, and later we were thrilled to see her looking brighter! She had no microchip or ID, so Huntingdon County Humane Society will be taking her into their care. (Hint, hint: our Frozen Kitty is adoptable!) Thank you to the “Good Sams” for saving a life today.

No photos, but yesterday we hosted a virtual tour of the hospital for a group of Penns Valley girls in a Discovery Space STEM program. Our team shared info about their jobs and the education needed, talked about what goes on in a vet hospital, showed x-rays and ultrasounds, removed a catheter on camera and shared a few patients, discussed scheduling and lab work and talked about the challenges of the front desk. And then the girls got to sit in on a dog wellness exam. IT WAS AWESOME, and from behind the camera, I was so proud of us! ~Anne Marie
Since it is Pet Dental Health month, we wanted to show some before-&-after photos so you can see how much dental care helps. We don’t just remove tartar and plaque and make teeth look pretty with polishing. We also clean gums and go after the bacteria that causes infections. Did you know bacteria from poor mouth care may travel through the circulatory system to other organs, causing serious long-term illnesses? (Endocarditis, a heart disease, is one such complication.)

TONY!! Smile, it’s Sunday.
A dental procedure begins with the insertion of a catheter for the administration of medications and fluid therapy, just as human surgeries do. Warming pads help a patient maintain body temperature while under sedation and a technician monitors vitals such as heart rate, respiration and temperature. We scale and polish teeth like your dentist does, and we may remove some if deemed necessary. These pets will feel much better once their mouths are clean and without pain!
