About Dr. Ringel
Brenda Ringel, M.D. specializes in diagnosing and treating the full scope of psychiatric disorders at her private practice in Carmel Valley of San Diego, California. She’s one of a handful of psychiatrists who holds double board certification in psychiatry and sleep disorders medicine.
Dr. Ringel training and experience make her uniquely qualified to treat primary sleep disorders, such as narcolepsy and insomnia, as well as sleep problems that co-occur with psychiatric disorders, a common problem faced by people with depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and ADHD.
Dr. Ringel’s holistic services include medication management, lifestyle coaching -- including nutrition and exercise -- and a limited psychotherapy practice. She also refers patients to specialists in psychotherapy and coordinates care with their therapists to ensure optimal treatment.
Dr. Ringel received her Bachelor’s degree in nutrition from the University of California at Berkeley, then graduated with a Master’s degree in international nutrition from the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health.
She completed her medical degree and the first half of her residency at the University of California at San Diego. Then she finished her psychiatry residence and did a sleep medicine fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Before starting her private practice, Dr. Ringel worked in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings and gained experience in sleep medicine. She’s committed to providing high quality, compassionate, and personalized care to her patients.
