A psalm our chaplains will share during worship on Sunday, Sept. 27, is about paths. Psalm 25:4 says, “Show me your ways, O Lord, and teach me your paths.” We have many paths around Bethesda, including our Bill Linder Walking Path. This graceful, paver path, made possible through philanthropy, meanders behind Sunrise Village Independent Living and bridges once-separated outdoor spaces into a fluid design that provides for safer outdoor walking around campus. We each follow our own path in life and learn God’s goodness along the way. Join our chaplains online to listen to this psalm, readings, prayers and hymns. The chaplains record a worship service each week, which we post here on Facebook at 9:30 a.m. Sundays. People also can watch worship, Pastor’s Corner, and more spiritual videos on our YouTube channel, which is available on our website: https://bethesdawillmar.com/community-life/spiritual-care/
Thank you, Southwest Initiative Foundation, for helping to make a difference in the lives of our DayBreak clients. 💙

Bethesda Willmar's DayBreak program provides a safe and caring environment for older adults to participate in activities like group crafts, physical strength/endurance exercises and social and recreational activities. DayBreak has filled a growing need in the Willmar area by serving older adults who still live at home but require extra support, while also providing a respite for their caregivers.
Earlier this year, the pandemic forced Bethesda to temporarily close its on-site DayBreak program, but a grant from Southwest Initiative Foundation for COVID-19 response allowed staff to deliver activities directly to clients. We received a thank you from Cindy, the DayBreak Adult Day Services Director, along with some photos of the activities. We’re happy to support vibrant, welcoming communities at every age in our region!

This week, Sept. 20-26, we celebrate National Adult Day Services Week. Our adult day program, DayBreak, blends our knowledge of healthcare with our desire to embrace the needs of older adults and people with disabilities in a safe, engaging and nurturing environment. Through individual and small-group activities, our DayBreak team makes a difference in the lives of our clients, who in turn bring joy to our day. We’re honored to be a part of their daily lives.

Today, Sunday, Oct. 11, is National Clergy Appreciation Day, and we want to recognize and express sincere appreciation for our two chaplains, Pastor Bill Miller and Pastor Mary Hovland. These ordained, pastoral-care chaplains serve our Bethesda family with dignity, respect, grace and compassion. Bethesda residents, tenants and staff are blessed by their ministry.
Bethesda, which is a social ministry organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, encourages people from all faiths and denominations to be a part of our center. Bethesda is supported by an ecumenical group of 25 area churches including Lutheran, Roman Catholic, Episcopalian, Presbyterian and Methodist, and we extend our grateful appreciation to the clergy at these churches, as well.

One year ago today we broke ground on our latest mission-driven venture. Developing a new senior lifestyle campus, Bethesda North Pointe, to further serve the health and wellness needs of seniors in Northern Kandiyohi County has been a beacon of hope, joy, and a promise for a brighter tomorrow amid these uncertain times.
Today, one year later, we celebrate a solid foundation of reservations for future apartments, strong community support for the Living Well Campaign that will one day complete the campus vision by enabling the construction of a warm-water therapy pool and sport court for pickleball, and a heart full of new members of our Bethesda family as future tenants.
We are grateful for what the last year has brought to our mission of serving others together in faith, community, and life. We anxiously look forward to welcoming our first tenants in the Summer of 2021.
For more information about residing at Bethesda North Pointe please call our Welcome Center at 320-214-5643.
For more information on the Living Well Campaign please call Bethesda Foundation at 320-214-5600.

Spiritual Care Week/Pastoral Care Week is Oct. 25-31, and the theme this year is, “Collaborative Healthcare: Chaplains Complete the Picture.” Spiritual Care Week provides an opportunity to zoom in and focus on the spiritual caregivers in our midst, including Bethesda’s chaplains – Pastor Mary Hovland and Pastor Bill Miller. It also serves as a time to zoom out and see the larger picture – how spiritual care is an important part of the holistic approach to care that Bethesda embraces, as we serve people in mind, body and spirit. Who or what do you count among your blessings? Listen, as one of our residents sings along to the song, “Count Your Blessings.” The song is a reminder that we are more blessed than we sometimes realize. May your blessings be many this Thanksgiving.
Count Your Blessings lyrics:
Verse 1: When upon life’s billows, you are tempest tossed; when you are discouraged, thinking all is lost; count your many blessings, name them one by one; and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
Refrain: Count your blessings, name them one by one; count your blessings, see what God has done; count your blessings, name them one by one; and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
Verse 2: Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear? Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly; and you will keep singing, as the days go by.
Refrain: Count your blessings, name them one by one; count your blessings, see what God has done; count your blessings, name them one by one; and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
We can all find something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. We asked some of our residents what they are thankful for, and their answers were both heartfelt and humorous. Answers included: “their family (spouse, children, grandchildren, and the “littles”), life, a nice place to live, the Lord’s protection, ice cream, the view out their window, Bethesda staff, good health, Jesus in their life, the love of family and friends, good food, the sun, the moon and stars, and … a good cup of coffee!” We are thankful to have all of you as part of our Bethesda family. From our family to yours, may you have a happy Thanksgiving!
With Thanksgiving being celebrated differently during this uncertain time, one thing is certain – our gratefulness for you. We are thankful – not just on Thanksgiving, but every day – for the community’s continued support. We are thankful for our team members, our frontline heroes, who provide compassionate care. And we are thankful for our residents, tenants, and clients, for their trust in our services. We are blessed to have all of you as part of our ever-growing Bethesda family. So, from our family to yours, we wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

Today, we celebrated Fabulous Forties Friday. Our activity team members dressed as Rosie the Riveter and shared her “We Can Do It” message. 💪🏼 We reminisced about the 1940s – the hairstyles, the fashion, and the music. We snacked on M&Ms, which were introduced in the 1940s, and residents recalled where they were when they heard about the end of World War II. We listened to favorite tunes from 1940s musicians Benny Goodman and The Andrews Sisters, and team members even performed some swing dance moves for residents. It was a fun way to finish the week!
